APPLIED VOCATIONAL SERVICES Inc. provides vocational expert (VE) services with a concentration on persons with chronic illness or disability in the southern Illinois region. Services have been provided in Missouri, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. This began as a consulting entity that that was developed to satisfy unmet regional needs by Thomas D. Upton, Ph.D., CRC. Concurrently, Dr. Upton is a faculty member in the Rehabilitation Institute at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
Numerous services are available and services are provided to meet specific disability needs. Dr. Upton began his rehabilitation career in 1992 and his rehabilitation consulting career in 1998 when he designed and provided innovative treatment for adults with brain injury in Linn County, IA. These were adults with brain injury who were unemployed and manifested communication social limitations. While completing his doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Iowa, he developed and provided treatment to these unemployed persons with brain injury from 1998-2000. The treatment met unmet community needs and provided valuable skills to many unemployed adults with brain injury.
Prior to this, he worked in several rehabilitation settings. Specifically, he worked as a Senior VR Counselor for the FL Division of Rehabiliation (DVR), for two comprehensive rehabilitation centers, and as a private rehabilitation consultant. He has been working as a private vocational expert services since 2000. In each of these roles, he gained valuable experiences about persons with varying disabilities. Currently, he is a university faculty member and trains Graduate level rehabilitation counselors.
In addition, Dr. Upton maintains his rehabilitation knowledge and skills through private rehabilitation exposure as a vocational expert. Vocational expert (VE) services have been provided for a number of venues. VE services began working for the Social Secuity Administration and expanded into other litigation needs (IL and IN Workers Compensation, Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, family law cases). VE services were sought and provided to meet the needs of several types of disability litigation.
